Granite is a moisture resistant stone, but it is also porous, and some granite slabs and countertops are naturally more porous than others. This means you may choose to use a granite sealer to stop your countertop from absorbing moisture, which can cause it to stain over time. Granite sealer makes the surface waterproof again, and can last for a good few years if you apply it regularly and look after the surface in between applications. To learn more about how to seal your granite and keep it looking as sharp as the day you bought it, give us a call today.
Why Use Granite Sealer?
Granite is moisture resistant naturally, but it is also porous. Granite sealer can help the stone surface to resist moisture which can cause stains over time. Many people choose to use granite sealer to protect their countertop and make sure it lasts for as long as possible, and continues to look beautiful in your home. Hartford Granite supply and apply a wide range of different sealers which can be used on different types of granite countertops for your home, whether they’re in the kitchen or bathroom.
How Do I Know If My Granite Needs To Be Sealed?
If you’re in any doubt about whether or not your granite countertop needs to be sealed you can always ask us, and we will do our best to help. One way to get an indication of whether or not it is time to seal - or reseal - your granite worktop is to watch how the surface reacts to moisture. You can simply put a little water onto the countertop and look at how long it takes to absorb. When it has been absorbed into the surface it will darken slightly. The quicker the water is absorbed, the more likely it is that you need to seal the surface. If the water sinks in quickly, it’s a good idea to have the surface sealed, and then looked at again annually to check the performance of the sealant. However, if the water is not absorbed after half an hour or so, you may not need to consider sealing your granite at the moment.
How Long Does Granite Sealer Last?
Different granite sealant products last for different lengths of time - and of course, it depends a lot on how you care for your granite countertop after sealing, and how frequently the area is used. However, you can expect a granite sealer to last for 3 to 5 years if properly applied, and even up to 10 years if the area is well treated and properly looked after once it has been sealed. If you have any doubts about how long the sealant we apply will last, feel free to ask the team any questions you might have.
